When we moved to Tennessee around 3 weeks ago, my hubby and I had high hopes of homeschooling our 3 kids (ages 3, 2, and 1). Fun, right? Piece of cake, right??? haha. It’s been an adventure so far. While DS#1 (3 yr old) is not quite old enough for school yet, I decided that there is no time to give it a try like the present. So, we started a small, simple “homeschool” routine. We do a structured learning time only twice per day at approximately 9 AM and 3 PM. Those appeared to be the most cooperative times of the day for DS#1 and DD (2 yr old). We only do a couple of activities. To encourage cooperation, I conceded to DS#1’s request to read his fave book at the beginning. Therefore, we read “Buzz Action” book.
Then, after DS#1 is appeased, I can persuade him to learn boring stuff. Like counting. We have been starting to learn to count from 0-10. I’ve been learning flash cards from Trend Enterprises. In Week #2 of homeschool, we added the letter A to our flash card time and during Week #3, we added the letter B. We also read any number of books that DS#1 would like to read. We finish with his weekly AWANA Cubbies story and work on his weekly memory verse. The Crazies hid the Cubbies book over the weekend so… no memory verse so far this week. I must find it soon. Anyway, that’s our homeschool routine so far. As of today, DS#1 is doing well counting and reasonably well with the letters A and B, their sounds, and what objects start with those letters. DD can do 3-4 numbers in a row such as 1, 2, 3 or 6, 7, 8, 9 and can identify the sound of letter A. They are also doing very well on their memory verses. 🙂 It’s trial and error so far but we are all learning as we go. Success!!
