Stay in your lane. Day 4. 

My husband is always up before me and showering first each morning. I think of it as his way of preparing for when my eyes pop open. As soon as my eyes pop open, I have something to say. 🙂 So, as he showers each morning, he listens to podcasts. Sermons, TED talks, and round tables of experienced pastors or business leaders are his daily fare. He usually comes out and recounts something he has learned. 

Yesterday, he told me about a story a pastor told his congregation. The pastor was teaching his son to drive and the son kept honking the horn.

He finally asked his son, “WHY DO YOU KEEP HONKING YOUR HORN??”

The son replied, “The other drivers keep coming in my lane!!”

The pastor had to instruct him that, if he continued to look at the other cars, they would appear to be in his lane. In fact, he was drifting in their lane because he kept focusing on the other car. The point the pastor was making was how important it was to stay in your own lane and focus on your own calling.

I’ll be honest with you. I’ve been honking my horn a lot today, guys. And, the truth of the matter is that I have definitely had my eyes on other people and not my calling. The comparison game is so easy to slip into… especially on social media.

“They have xxxx and I don’t.”

“They said xxxx and that offends me.”

“They don’t do that… why should I???”

“They hurt me.”

There’s a lot of “they” in those statements, aren’t there? Those “they” statements don’t help me in any way. It only ends with me in their lane and not doing anything successful in my lane. My calling.

Refocus.

Anyway, day #4. I’m feeling MUCH better than yesterday.

Breakfast:


3/4 cup Honey Bunches of Oats with almonds cereal. 1 cup skim milk. Black coffee. This was NOT my best breakfast choice so far. While extra yummy, it didn’t provide lasting energy. Protein. I need protein at every meal.

Lunch:


Whole wheat tortilla, 2 servings oven toasted turkey, 1/2 serving of shredded cheddar cheese, spinach, tomato and 1/2 tablespoon BBQ sauce. 1/2 cup carrots. One apple. Notice that I cut down on my cheese serving. I’m saving my intake for dinner.

Dinner:


1 cup Turkey Tetrazzini, 1/2 cup steamed broccoli.

After dinner snack:


One frozen banana blended in the NutriBullet (I’m telling you that I’m in love with this thing!) and topped with one small homemade cherry biscotti crumbled. Amazing.

Water: 110 oz

Movement: over 10,000 steps and 10 flights of stairs. I cleaned out my kids’ closets and dressers. You don’t have to go to the gym to burn calories. Good ole fashioned shuffling of clothing sizes burns fat! Keep moving! 🙂

I’m excited for tomorrow and hoping I feel as good as I did today. Lots of energy and very reduced pain level!!!
